Music Box

Notes: This is an over due request for Netbug009. I feel like this is out of character, but I hope you like it anyway. Inspired by “When I’m Alone” by Carbon Leaf.

My tail picked up something smooth, square. Sitting on the floor, I pulled my tail back, retrieving the object from underneath my bed. It was made out of wood, and any monkey would know that this was box. But, believe it or not, this box meant something to me, when the Monkey Team was united; All of us.

“Here, Sprx, I want you to have this,” she had said, smiling. Her pink eyes flickered in the sunlight that the window provided as her hands stretched outward. I blinked, feeling slightly confused. Sure, Nova gave me gifts all the time – But, when I looked at what it was, I couldn’t help but cock my head.

“It’s a music box,” she replied, opening the lid to it slowly. Once she did, pleasant tunes and notes flowed out into the world. I was a never a big fan of music, but this was different. This was more than music to your common primate.

Closing the lid softly, Nova handed over the box to me. I examined it in awe, feeling its markings with my hand. Then she spoke, “It’s a token for… being such a good friend.” She looked down, and then I felt her warm hands embrace me in a tight squeeze. I grinned, rubbing the back of my neck.

I clutched the box in my metal hands, glancing over to the wall. I saw a picture of her – the same friend who gave me this box, the same who stuck by my side since we were born – hanging on the wall. And our creator… no, not our creator, the source of evil, the one who we were trying to stop, flashed through my mind.

“Nova…why did you turn evil?
