“Bubbie, do you think Captain K’nuckles likes me?”

The moment little Flapjack said that, I snapped out of my doze for the time being. Even though he was inside my mouth for the night, I heard perfectly clearly what he said.

Yet, I didn’t know how to respond. There were many definitions to describe the word “like”, especially to a boy of Flapjack’s age. It was hard to determine what he meant exactly.

But then, I felt his soft fingers curl around my tongue. Feeling the gentle waves sway back and forth, I heard a yawn and a small voice from inside.

“Because, I like Captain K’nuckles a lot, too, Bubbie.”

It was then that I felt my eyes close to the rhythm of the sea and to the nightlife of Stormalong. I knew what Flapjack meant, and I was okay with it.
